Muscular Dystrophy, Duchenne
|
D020388 |
[An X-linked recessive muscle disease caused by an inability to synthesize DYSTROPHIN, which is involved with maintaining the integrity of the sarcolemma. Muscle fibers undergo a process that features degeneration and regeneration. Clinical manifestations include proximal weakness in the first few years of life, pseudohypertrophy, cardiomyopathy (see MYOCARDIAL DISEASES), and an increased incidence of impaired mentation. Becker muscular dystrophy is a closely related condition featuring a later onset of disease (usually adolescence) and a slowly progressive course. (Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, p1415)

Muscular Dystrophy, Emery-Dreifuss
|
D020389 |
[A heterogenous group of inherited muscular dystrophy without the involvement of nervous system. The disease is characterized by MUSCULAR ATROPHY; MUSCLE WEAKNESS; CONTRACTURE of the elbows; ACHILLES TENDON; and posterior cervical muscles; with or without cardiac features. There are several INHERITANCE PATTERNS including X-linked (X CHROMOSOME), autosomal dominant (for LMNA-associated type see AUTOSOMAL EMERY-DREIFUSS MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY), and autosomal recessive gene mutations.

Muscular Dystrophy, Facioscapulohumeral
|
D020391 |
[An autosomal dominant degenerative muscle disease characterized by slowly progressive weakness of the muscles of the face, upper-arm, and shoulder girdle. The onset of symptoms usually occurs in the first or second decade of life. Affected individuals usually present with impairment of upper extremity elevation. This tends to be followed by facial weakness, primarily involving the orbicularis oris and orbicularis oculi muscles. (Neuromuscul Disord 1997;7(1):55-62; Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, p1420)

Muscular Dystrophy, Oculopharyngeal
|
D039141 |
[An autosomal dominant hereditary disease that presents in late in life and is characterized by DYSPHAGIA and progressive ptosis of the eyelids. Mutations in the gene for POLY(A)-BINDING PROTEIN II have been associated with oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy.

Musculocutaneous Nerve
|
D009138 |
[A major nerve of the upper extremity. The fibers of the musculocutaneous nerve originate in the lower cervical spinal cord (usually C5 to C7), travel via the lateral cord of the brachial plexus, and supply sensory and motor innervation to the upper arm, elbow, and forearm.

Musculoskeletal Manipulations
|
D026201 |
[Cerebrospinal fluid flow stimulation by massage of the head and spine. Developed by William Sutherland in the early 1900's.
, Approaches that emphasize manipulation and realignment of the body's structure in order to improve function as well as mental outlook.
, Various manipulations of body tissues, muscles and bones by hands or equipment to improve health and circulation, relieve fatigue, promote healing.

|
D024521 |
[Prominent lobed neuropils found in ANNELIDA and all ARTHROPODS except crustaceans. They are thought to be involved in olfactory learning and memory.

Music
|
D009146 |
[Sound that expresses emotion through rhythm, melody, and harmony.
, A serious and conventional form of music involving orchestral movements that was developed during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
, A form of music developed in the early 1920s characterized by string rhythms and improvisatory solos.
, A form of music developed in the 1940s and 1950s and derived from jazz and other forms of rhythmic music before it.
, A form of music that is rapidly spoken instead of sung and that is accompanied by rhythm.

Mustard Compounds
|
D009150 |
[Strong alkylating and immunosuppressive agents whose biological activity is based on the presence of bis(2-chloroethyl)- groups. Although otherwise structurally diverse, the compounds have in common the capacity to contribute alkyl groups to DNA. They are generally highly toxic but include among their number many widely used and effective antineoplastic agents.

Mustard Gas
|
D009151 |
[Severe irritant and vesicant of skin, eyes, and lungs. It may cause blindness and lethal lung edema and was formerly used as a war gas.
